Why AI search quoted the smaller blog
Sent on
A client asked us why an AI answer quoted a tiny competitor instead of their long guide. The answer was one sentence: the competitor stated the fact plainly, near the top, with its source beside it.
The lesson
Write the answer first, in one sentence a tool can lift as it is. Then explain. Our post on how AI search picks which pages to quote shows the pattern with examples.
Three links
- Search Central's guide to helpful content, still the best short read on the subject.
- Our own content brief template, now with a line for the one-sentence answer.
- Structured data, explained for writers, for the pages where it helps.
A reader asks
"Should every post start with a summary?" Not every post, but every post that answers a question. A reader who came for the answer should not scroll to find it.
