About Fernhour and this blog
Fernhour is a small software company. We make an app that plans staff rotas for small teams: cafes, shops, salons and clinics with a handful of people on each shift.
This blog is where we share what we know about planning shifts, whether or not you use Fernhour. The guides work with paper, a spreadsheet or any app.
Who writes here
- Isla Calloway leads the product team. She ran a cafe and planned its rota by hand before she joined Fernhour.
- Joel Ferreira leads customer support. He writes about the problems managers bring to us, and about each new feature.
How we write
Every guide is written by someone who has planned real shifts. When a post mentions a rule about working hours, it links to the official page, because rules change and differ between countries. We are not lawyers, so check anything legal with an adviser.
When we change a post in a way that matters, we update its date.
